Following the Dangerous Jesus

Date:
06/27/2010

This message is based on the well-known incident of Jesus walking on the water in Matthew 14:22-33.  People have many varied ideas of the "kind" of Jesus they would be pleased to follow, but the idea of Jesus being "dangerous" is usually not one of them!  If we consider how the disciples must have felt after Jesus dispatched them to Capernaum following the miraculous "feeding of the 5,000" we can understand that they were honestly afraid for their lives, and must have felt that Jesus had abandoned them!

Then there's Peter, who sought to confirm the identity of the mysterious figure walking on the water by getting out of the boat and walking toward Him! This was a short-lived adventure, of course, as he got distracted by the chaos surrounding him. Each of us has crises in our lives, and feel abandoned or forgotten, but we can rest assured in the fact that Jesus said He would never leave us or desert us.

God has a wonderful, exciting plan for your life, but it may not seem "safe" or comfortable, or even make sense to the human reason.  Won't you trust Him to bless you and to use you to glorify His Name in this dark and foreboding culture?
